This course is for Headteachers, DSPs, Child Protection Officers and other pastoral staff, and it meets the statutory requirement for more advanced training, renewable every two years. This one day course explores the roles and responsibilities for those designated staff as well as the processes of making referrals for Child Protection.

It is a statutory requirement for every school, service or organisation to have a Designated Senior Person who manages safeguarding and a second member of staff to deputise for him or her. In primary schools this is often the Headteacher, a Deputy Head, SENCO or other senior member of staff. In secondary schools or other organisations there may be several senior staff, in addition to the Headteacher, who bear responsibility for managing safeguarding.Working Together to Safeguard Children (2010) establishes a requirement for these senior staff and Headteachers to undertake advanced training every two years. This is reflected also in the OFSTED and ISI Regulatory Requirements for Inspection.

Whilst our Level 3 course, Multi-Agency Training (incorporating Level 2: The Role of the Designated Person) may be more appropriate for renewal for more experienced Headteachers, senior staff and Designated Persons, many who are new to these roles prefer to undertake the training as Level 2:The Roles of the Designated Person  first and then Level 3: Multi-Agency Working as a seperate day. They feel this more effectively meets their statutory responsibilities and increases their confidence in their role in school (and later in multi-agency settings). NB Level 3: Multi-Agency Working is available next term as a stand alone course.

The course is over one full day and is available for delivery in your school for a number of staff, or centrally for individuals at a venue in London and the South East, The Midlands or The South West.

It is recommended that at least two staff within your school or organisation have undertaken this training to ensure someone is always available to meet this managerial responsibility.
