Our Trainers

Paul James MA, BEd, Dip SH

Paul James is Director of Barabarani Education Services.

He has had a career of over thirty years in Education & Childrens Services in the classroom, as a Headmaster, Deputy Head and Housemaster in boarding and day schools. He has also been designated person for child protection and he is a school governor.

In Local Authorities he has held roles as School Advisor (Vulnerable Children), Service Manager (Education Welfare), Lead Officer (Child Safeguarding), member of MAPPP (Public Protection Panel), member of LSCB (Local Safeguarding Children Board) & Chair of LSCB Training Committee. He has worked in maintained & independent schools, in UK and overseas, with The Childrens Trust, Directors of Childrens Services, Corporate Parenting Board and partners in Childrens Social Care Services, Health Service, Police, Probation and in the Voluntary Sector, working with vulnerable young people. He has also been a foster carer.

He is a registered trainer for CEOPS (Child Exploitation On-line Protection Service), and an accredited trainer for Safer Recruitment with CWDC (Childrens Workforce Development Council)

He is a qualified teacher. He also inspects schools and fulfils interim management roles in UK and overseas, and assesses the sustainability of development projects for vulnerable children in less developed countries, on behalf of international charities.

Ben Whitney

Ben Whitney has over 25 years' experience in senior positions in Education Welfare in both Staffordshire and Wolverhampton.

He has delivered numerous training events in schools and is the author of several books including
Protecting Children: A Handbook for Teachers and School Managers and Social Inclusion in Schools.

He is an accredited trainer for Safer Recruitment with CWDC (Childrens Workforce Development Council)

He is now a writer, trainer and consultant, specialising in supporting schools with attendance and child welfare issues.


Paul Saunders

Paul Saunders is an experienced trainer of social care and education professionals.

He has been working for the past eleven years as the Education Advisor for Safeguarding and Child Protection in Derbyshire. Prior to this he managed a training team providing professional development to the children's social care sector.


He is an accredited trainer for Safer Recruitment with CWDC (Childrens Workforce Development Council)

He is a qualified social worker, with a career in social work practice and has extensive experience of multi-agency work.
