Barabarani Education Services

We offer face to face training in schools and other venues, as this seems to be more successful in encouraging interaction and discussion. However, we also offer the same training remotely, using Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

Child Safeguarding is a particularly important part of the UK's agenda. There is now an increased emphasis not just on safeguarding the most vulnerable, but also on promoting the physical and emotional welfare of all our children and young people.

We continue to see cases reported of family based child abuse and neglect, with a significant increase during the pandemic. These remind us that children can be vulnerable in their homes, but we are increasingly aware of issues around children's and young people's use of social media and the internet generally. We are also aware of the growing risks of child on child abuse (highlighted by the "Everyone's Invited" campaign), sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation, gang cultures and radicalisation or extremism, leading young people into copycat actions or spreading of extremist propaganda.

We are aware in the media of high profile cases such as those revealed by Operation Yew Tree and the many local authority areas where extensive sexual exploitation of children has been uncovered. Following successful convictions under the Forced Marriage legislation from 2014, we have increased awareness of these and other cultural risks including female genital mutilation. Following the Trojan Horse enquiry we are also increasingly aware of the risks of radicalisation into extremist views and actions. Inevitably we continue to see cases of child abuse in professional situations, involving breach of trust or issues surrounding staff failing to manage  stressful or challenging situations appropriately.

All Inspection frameworks place particular significance on Child Safeguarding requirements in the Leadership and Management area and in the sections on Behaviour and Safety of Pupils. However, it now permeates all that we teach, as well as how and what children learn about keeping themselves safe.

The latest government guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children (2024) and Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023) along with The Prevent Duty (2023)  and Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education (2021) direct the work of agencies including Education (schools, colleges and nurseries).

Barabarani Education Services have many years of experience, providing high quality training for maintained and independent schools, academies and free schools, for other statutory agencies (Police, Health and Children's Services), and to independent providers - including the voluntary and community sectors. We offer training opportunities within your school or other organisation for your whole staff team, and for Governors, Trustees or Boards of Management. We also offer workshops for pupils and students at each Key Stage in schools (from Reception Class to Year 13) and for parents.

In response to changing emphases in Keeping Children Safe in Education we offer;
Workshops for students and pupils, staff and parents on E-Safety (Managing risk in the real & the virtual world) and Anti-Bullying (including Cyber-Bullying) and also staff training on understanding and managing child on child abuse  based on government guidance we offer staff training on understanding and managing child on child abuse.

Our trainers are experienced teachers, psychotherapists and local authority trainers, which ensures that workshops for children and young people are engaging (even enjoyable) and that our staff, governors' and parents' training sessions are exceptionally well evaluated.  One Headteacher wrote recently,

"I thought the presentation was masterful. I was watching a real expert at work. That made it a very worthwhile experience." (Headmaster, Amesbury School)
